New Years Day came along, and being the passionate golfer that he is, Herbie Manwaring was sure that there would be many others like him heading on up for a scratch together Comp.

Unfortunately this was not the case, so not to be deterred, Herbie grabs faithful Marjie and off they trot.
Not a round of any great consequence until they make their way to the 10th hole, unsure as to whether to call it off after 9 holes and recline with a beer for the arvo.
Well they plied their way on. Marjie knocked one down and safe to the front, Herbie steps up and just makes the first ACE of his life. Playing 80 something years and being quite a formidable golfer you may think this might of happened a few times, but no, his first Ace.
Whilst, some may say it was just husband and wife playing …….. our Greenkeeper happened to be fiddling around nearby and saw all the action as a witness.
Ben Glover himself shot a great round over the Christmas Break, knocking a 1 under par 70 off the stick, if you like. Fantastic stuff to see great golf but also to see Herbie, a legend of Harden Country Club who just keeps proving week in and week out that age is no barrier. Salute Maurice Manwaring !
Hawk-Eye On Song Again
Our January Medal was played for last Saturday and despite Tam Kennedy claiming it days in advance, this was not to be the case.
John Hawkins has played 4 better than his handicap to record a 67 nett, claim the A Grade Medal, the Day’s Event brought to us by Harden Country Club, and heaven help the regulars Golfers – he has claimed the Guzzlers Mug.
This is one man who knows how to use this mug and is almost professional at it. Hawk-Eye has claimed the Medal by a Tally Ho paper from Matt Peisley who also had a 67 nett and just did not do as well on the inward 9 as the winner.
In B Grade our Medal Winner was Tim Beveridge who recorded a round 3 better than his handicap for a 68 nett and a great round of golf.
Our A Grade Scratch went to Kevin Hoppe with a 76 and the B Grade Scratch went to Bernie Parker with an 86.
Balls went back to 69 on a countback and were awarded to Matt Peisley (67), Tim Beveridge (68), John Croxson (68) and Kevin Hoppe (69 c/b).
The nearest to the Pin on the Bendigo Bank hole in one hole went to Matt Peisley at 4.55m, whilst our carton draw was gladly claimed by the boys in blue and Tom Poole.
Herbie Claimed Last Midweek for 2018
In a sign of what was to come (no doubt), Herbie Manwaring has streeted the field in the last Midweek Comp before Christmas.
Herbie has taken 30 stableford points over 12 holes to claim the title and also donate 6 handicap back to the field. Herbie’s new handicap is 6.5 when resuming in 2019.
Ian Bruce has shown consistent form in this comp and do not be surprised to see him head up one of the early weeks in 2019. Ian took 29 points.
Peter Steinke has begun to lurk near the top again and he ran 3rd with two lots of 26 points on the two days of play.
The ball draw went to Garth Webb.
This Week
On Saturday, the boys and girls can play for a Summer Stableford from lunch time, while midweekers can go round from 9am on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Hope you all had a good one.
