“I now have a two year internship to complete at Wollongong University, one of which will be as a provisional doctor.” Dr Spackman said. “If I graduate that, then I am a full Doctor.”
Born and bred in Harden Murrumburrah, Dr Spackman divided his early schooling between Murrumburrah Public School and Wombat Public School, before attending Murrumburrah High School.
“I had great teachers at Murrumburrah High School, but two really went out of their way to help me succeed.” Dr Spackman said.
“Mrs Charlotte Middleton and Mrs Alexa Preston are two of the most amazing ladies I have ever met. In fact, it was Mrs Middleton who told me I should become a doctor and my first thought was ‘no way! ”
“Murrumburrah High has produced some really great students and I believe it is because of the dedication of some of its teachers.” Dr Spackman said.
“We have remained in contact throughout my Uni days and they have been there for me every step of the way.”
Dr Spackman said that he would like to eventually work in a rural or regional area and may even return to Harden to practise medicine one day.
“I would like to thank my family and friends for helping me through my studies. Especially Mum and Dad. They have really been on this journey with me, every step of the way” Dr Spackman said. “I have a short while before I start my internship, so for now, I just want to enjoy the feeling of having a break.”
