This is the largest single public infrastructure development in the region and will become a leading centre of knowledge and community for all regional residents.

As the process continues, we as councillors and guardians of the community interest need to ensure that interest is well served.

In this respect we need to ensure the facility meets the cultural needs of the region.

Whilst we celebrate our own artistic endeavour well, the region is bereft of opportunities to experience professional artistic activities.

Where are the touring art shows and theatre productions that could inspire a young child or encourage a professional to move here and serve our community?

This project may not allow for a proper theatre, but it must provide an exhibiting space for touring shows from national and state galleries in order to enrich the community.

Our whole notion of “community” can sometimes be a quite amorphous concept and yet, when we see it or feel it, we surely know it exists.

In this light, the recently conducted National Cherry Festival was a shining example of community.

Thanks and congratulations to all those involved including the committee, staff of the visitors centre and the many volunteers for creating such a success and sense of community.
