Blantyre Farms’ new facility will provide local jobs, training and economic contributions to the Harden area.
Based five kilometres from Harden, Eulie is currently used for mixed farming practices, including sheep and cattle grazing and the growing of crops such as canola, wheat, oats and barley.
In 2015, Blantyre Farms lodged a Development Application with Hilltops Shire Council, which was not supported. Since that time, Blantyre Farms have commissioned a large number of scientific, environmental, design and planning studies to ensure that any potential impacts of Eulie’s construction and operations are well managed.
Previous concerns raised regarding soil and land capability, water resources (both ground and surface), flooding, flora and fauna, heritage, odour, noise and traffic are currently being investigated and addressed by Blantyre Farmms as part of the preparation of an extensive Environmental Management Plan, as part of the Environmental Impact Statement, required to support the development application.
“At Blantyre Farms we pride ourselves on embracing sustainable and best practice methods for our pork farms,” stated owner Mrs Edwina Beveridge.
“This is done by identifying and implementing innovative and environmentally sustainable approaches to waste management, electricity use and production and water control methods.”
“Our recent Green Globe award win was a wonderful opportunity to highlight our hard work in the area of food waste use in farming activities and our processes used to harness excess methane gas to create renewable power,” Mrs Beveridge said.
At its pig farm in Young, Blantyre Farms employs 40 full time staff members and contributes over $2.2 million in wages to the local community. Local employment and training opportunities will be a focus for Blantyre Farms in the Harden area.
Blantyre Farms is aware that the new development application for a pig farm in Harden may generate community interest, so it is important that accurate and timely information is available.
Upcoming communication and engagement activities for the proposal will include stakeholder briefings, newsletters, website, a dedicated email address and 1800 number for enquiries and regular updates through the local media.
