OUR summer stablefords continued last weekend and nobody could have seen what was coming. Kevin Hoppe ploughed into the field and his round like a breakaway train last Saturday to record a brilliant score of 69 off the stick for a grand total of 47 points.

Shooting two under off the beater is just unheard of recently at Harden Country Club and it was a round of birdies and everything going Kev’s way. The back surgery is now far behind him and the trust is in his swing to take it further. Like a fine wine (well maybe not quite) Kev is maturing with age.
Our Hawaiian shirt wonder was up to his tricks again recording seven shots better than his new handicap, and holding centre stage at the bar soon after his round, only to trip over his bottom lip once he heard Kevin Hoppe’s score reverberate around the Club once found out. John Brownhill may well have still shifted his handicap south with a non winning score of 43 stableford points.
Whilst Kevin claimed the day’s prize provided by Harden Country Club, John Brownhill with his 43 points led off the ball comp. Balls also went to Peter Steinke (39), Ron Kerr (38) and Ron Page (37). Our Bendigo Bank Hole in One did not go off but the proximity to the hole is improving. Tam Kennedy claimed the nearest the pin ball with 2.78m on Saturday.

PETER Orr claimed the midweek prize this week with a modest but tidy little 26 point round.
Peter shot two better than his handicap around the 12-hole competition layout which is normally good for 24 points.
Peter’s two-point surplus soon turned in to a two-point deficit off his handicap for a very handy 22 he starts off next week.
David James and Garth Webb recorded equal second with 25 points and one better than their handicaps, yet with no deductions, leaves them ripe for this week. Peter Orr had a good week picking up fourth place as well.
Field sizes seem to be rising which is very pleasing to the Midweek organisers. The mystery ball comp went to Ron Fuller Snr.

Please bring a plate, even if you do not make it to golf, then do come along and let’s have some fellowship and congratulate those who have led our club in 2018 on the course.
The home Scott Fuller event is this Sunday, a 10am shotgun (money and warm up from 9.30am), and there are some great prizes on as usual.
