Cassandra met Annalise Potts from Harden on the first day of Year 11 at Hennessy Catholic High School nearly three years ago and the two immediately became friends.
When Annalise’s niece Annabelle Potts was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, an inoperable brain cancer, in December 2016, Cassandra and her friends vowed they would do everything they could to support Annalise through this traumatic time.
“Our friendship group all saw how much Annabelle’s illness was affecting Annalise and we all wanted to be there for her.” Ms Edwards said.
“Annalise cut 45cm from her hair and donated it to a charity for wigs last year and I thought this year, I will do the same. I had never heard of DIPG before Annabelle was diagnosed, it is just horrible that there has been so little research done because of a lack of funding.”
Ms Edwards said she was overwhelmed by the amount of support she received from the attendees at ‘Joan’s Wish’.
“We raised $471.35 for DIPG research, which is fantastic. Thank you to everyone who donated.” Ms Edwards said.
“It is a big change for me, but one I was willing to make for Annalise and Annabelle.”
