The money announced will fund five projects which will help improve sporting and leisure facilities in the twin towns, allowing the community to enjoy more of what life in the Hilltops region offers.
"Harden-Murrumburrah is a fantastic thriving community and it's so exciting to see so many projects being given the green light thanks to the Stronger Country Communities Fund," Ms Cooke said.
"It's a privilege to be able to help these projects move forward because they will bring so much more to the community and enable sporting activities to attract wider participation."
The projects are $326,690 to upgrade toilet and shower facilities at Murrumburrah Showground; $133,839 for an active cycleway in Harden; $731,405 for a new sporting precinct facility at McLean Oval; $278,902 for a new amenities building and facilities at Coddington Park and $230,464 for an extension of the cycleway from Murrumburrah Showground to Allsop Street, Harden
In addition, an announcement at the Harden Kite Festival of $658,910 to improve Harden Racecourse was announced, taking the total Stronger Country Communities Fund grant amount to $2.36 million.
"Sport is such an important part of life in the bush because it provides a huge sense of community and teamwork," Ms Cooke said.
"This is why the McLean Oval upgrade is so important: We will see the demolition of the existing facilities and the building of a new centre which will have a club room for viewing games and for hosting functions, a canteen and bar, a barbecue area, competitor and referee change facilities and a parents room," Ms Cooke said.
"Coddington Park will gain a new amenities building as well as barbecue and seating facilities.”
The active cycleway in Harden and Young will use the $133,839 to upgrade the route for cyclists as well as install outdoor fitness equipment at Roberts Park in Murrumburrah and Arboretum Park in Young.
"The North Street cycleway will extend from Murrumburrah Showground to Allsop Street in Harden and, with construction of the Roberts Park/Murrumburrah Showground link under way, the extension will lengthen the cycleway from the showground to Harden's CBD and create a cycle link between the two town centres," Ms Cooke said.
"And the Showground itself will gain new shower and toilet facilities to enable it to cater to the needs of visitors for the more than 20 events a year which are based there.”
