“The Anglican Op Shop has been running for more than 20 years.” volunteer Jan Gibson said.

“It used to be that our whole clientele consisted of people in need, but now it has become quite fashionable to go ‘op-shopping’.”

The shop is completely run by volunteers and stocks a wide variety of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, as well as a substantial range of household items and books.

“As a part of a church-run organisation, the shop is a very caring and compassionate environment.” Mrs Gibson said. “We want everyone to feel that they can come and browse, chat and maybe buy something, with no sense of judgement or intimidation.”

The stock in the shop is all donated and nothing goes to waste.

“At the end of each season, a gentleman from the other side of Wagga Wagga comes over and packs our left-over stock into wool bales.” Mrs Gibson said. “These wool bales are then sent overseas to third world countries, where everything is given to the poor and nothing is wasted.”

Mrs Gibson said the people of Harden Murrumburrah are very generous and the shop is rarely short of stock.

“The bins are emptied twice weekly and they are nearly always full.” Mrs Gibson said.

“Sometimes, people are wary of donating articles of clothing belonging to their loved ones who have passed away. The volunteer staff understand this completely, and are more than willing to have these donations sent to other shops, in different areas.”

“All people have to do is let us know their wishes in regards to donations, and we will make sure they happens.” Mrs Gibson said. 

The upcoming fashion parade promises to be an exciting one, filled with summer clothing, modeled by local ladies of all shapes and sizes.

“Everyone is welcome to come to the parade, all stock will be available for sale.” Mrs Gibson said. “And we have free Devonshire Tea made by some of the best cooks in Harden.”
