The six ladies; Rose Adler, Bodil Atkins, Joan Rawlins, Denise Coble, Bev Stewart and Helen Bruce have between them, racked up a massive 192 years of CWA membership and show no signs of slowing down.
Rose Adler has been a member for 27 years, most of which have been in the role of Treasurer. She has also held the positions of Secretary and Vice President of the South West group for twice.
Rose has seen a few secretaries and Presidents in her time but at the great age of 91 has outlived most of them, and will continue to be a treasured member of the Harden CWA.
Bodil Atkins joined 31 years ago and has has been a member at Camden, Forbes, Humula, Jerilderie and Harden. She has held two positions; International and Handicraft Officer and is still Harden’s Handicraft Officer. She was guest speaker at Forbes CWA for International day. when the Country of Study was Denmark.
Joan Rawlins has been a member for 28 years and took up the position of Treasurer in 1995, and then Secretary in 1996. In 1998 she then took up the position of President till 2001 and was there until last year when she retired. Joan loved the fellowship of the other members and doing things with them. Unfortunately Joan is not well, but her daughter Jill was at the luncheon to represent her.
Denise Coble has been a member for 35 years and attended with her mother, who always encouraged her to come to meetings. Denise is a valued member of Harden CWA ,who is always happy to join in the meeting discussions, she has the position of Meet and Greet Officer and she hardly ever misses a meeting,
Beverly Stewart has been a member for 45 years. Bev loved to represent Harden at zone meeting and craft and cooking days, where she was the driver because she was the youngest.
She is well known for her sponge cakes and has taken out many prizes for them.
Helen Bruce joined 26 years ago and found it was a great way of meeting ladies and being involved in the community. In July 1993 at the South Group International Cultural day, Helen persuaded a few local ladies to do a skit called ‘Steak and Kidney Pie’. With the help of Joan and Rose, the skit won her an award for best actress and she received the Edna Sharrock trophy; a sugar basin, which she dutifully handed on at the end of her reign.
Congratulations ladies from the Harden Express for your service and commitment to our community and this wonderful organisation.
