Mr Ford joined Rotary in 1978, two years after coming to Harden as an Apexian. A beautiful testimonial for Mr Ford was given by Don Jamieson, who was the Murrumburrah-Harden Rotary President in the year Brian was inducted.
Brian came into Rotary in its 30th year, when it was known as “The Chocolate Wheel” club, so it was only fitting that Brian got to spin that same chocolate wheel three times on Monday night to draw the lucky door prizes.
Brian was jokingly nicknamed ‘the vulture’ because he could spot anyone trying to sneak into club meetings without paying. He held the position of treasurer for 13 years.
Some of the achievements in his year as President included the commencement of the steer project, a fetal heart monitor being purchased for the hospital and donations to the Papua New Guinea disaster appeal.
Brian loved going to Rotary meetings and was a regular winner of the Jeannette O’Connor attendance trophy, which he won 14 or 15 years in a row. Brian said the highlight of his year as President was the privilege of giving Don Jamieson his Paul Harris fellow at the Royal Tara Motel in Binalong - given by Bruce Gruber, who was the current DIstrict Governor, from Boorowa.
Assistant DG Julie Poplin, thanked Brian on his contribution to the Murrumburrah Harden rotary club and congratulated him on his 40 years of dedication to Rotary.
The Murrumburrah Harden Rotary Club meets every Monday night, commencing at 7 pm. Rotary invites a variety of guest speakers, who are able to speak on some very interesting subjects. One such recent guest was Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke.
In the coming few weeks, Acting General Manager of Hilltops Council, David Aber will address the club on September 10, and on September 17, Rotary Exchange student Ludvig Bredsgaard will make a presentation.
The club is currently welcoming new members, for further information on attending, please contact President Robert Scott on 0468 959 084.
