Congratulations to Georgia Smith and Emma James, who have been nominated for the Canberra Group Awards next week.
- Jason Pollard
The Youth League team played Yass last weekend, who were undefeated for the season. Our side had recently drawn with Yass and started slowly, only to find themselves down early with a score of 8 to 0. They basically defended for the whole first half and were lucky not to concede more points to the opposition.
The second half saw Jakob Halls score a great try, barging through the defenders and changing the score to 8 to 6. Another good passage of play saw Ryan Daley score for the team allowing them to lead 10 to 8 and they held on to win the match.
Best on the day were Will Quinn, Ryan Daley, Nick Stevenson and Travis Whybrow in a great performance.
Hawkettes
The Hawkettes took on the UC and dominated early, racing in some great tries to lead 30 to nil at the break. The second half continued in the same way and the girls ran out winners with a final score of 70 to 0.
Emilie Quinn was great, putting on some fantastic passes to put team mates through holes. Georgia Smith dominated in attack and defence, scoring three tries, which brings her total to 28 for the season.
Tara McGrath West also scored a hat trick and Grace Smith caused lots of problems all day for UC. Emma James scored a try and kicked 11 from 12, bringing her tally to 216 for the season.
Hawks
The Hawks also played the University of Canberra, which was a tight contest for about 20 minutes, until the boys hit their stride to lead 26 to nil at the break.
Much of the same took place in the second half; Centre Jonathon Pouono stamped his class, scoring three tries; Half Carl Johnson was guiding the side around the field. Front rowers Salway and Holmes were great and so was Michael West.
The final score was 68 to 0; meaning the Hawks have all but wrapped up second spot with one round to go. This means a home ground semi final in a fortnight, hopefully along with Youth League. The Hawkettes will have the first week of the semi’s off as they will finish Minor Premiers.
Luke Brown was nominated for the Hawks to attend the group presentation next week.
This week, Youth League will play Crookwell at Boorowa at 1.10 pm. The Hawkettes will verse the Jersey Girls at Binalong, starting at 12.50 pm and the Hawks will also verse Binalong starting at 2 pm in Binalong.
