The 2018 champion is Young’s Liz Harding who brought her A game on a toughening track with winter setting in.
Liz shot 82 off the stick to be four shots clear of Boorowa/Young member Wendy Tuckerman who brought home an 86. To round out the champion division, Leanne Slater shot a 78 nett to take that section whilst Jill Graham also shot a 78 but dipped out to Leanne on a countback. Kate Cooper picked up the stableford winner in this grade on the day.
In B Grade, Barb Beveridge, playing for Cootamundra, picked up this division’s title. Barb’s 92 off the stick saw her four shots clear of Harden’s Pat Walker who claimed runner-up on the day. The 18 hole nett went to Helen Manning, of Cootamundra, with a five under her handicap 69 nett, being three shots better than Pam Greaves, of Young, who was runner-up. Annie McAlister claimed the B Grade stableford.
In C Grade Pam McCloy, of Young, was the victor with 104 shots, only one shot clear of Harden’s Alexa Preston. Jan Davies claimed the nett result with a 77, two shots clear of Lorraine Nicholls of Young. Julie Lenehan, of Gundagai, took out the C stableford.
The veterans’ trophy was won by Young’s Nola Hartman and Julie Jenkins, of Cootamundra, won the visitor’s trophy. The nearest the Pins went to Val Machell (10th), Leanne Slater (18th), Barb Beveridge (5th), and Del Gregg (16th by draw).
MIDWEEK WINNER
Last week was a washout, however, golf was played the week prior.
Peter Steinke, a renowned mud-runner, was favourite and as he does, pulled out enough to claim the result. A par 24 point round on the 12-hole layout saw Peter collect the chocolates, but with only minimal damage to his handicap, with a deduction of one shot.
Jim Wright tried to rain on Peter’s parade shooting the very same score yet dipping out on a countback. Ian Bruce and Ron Kerr shared third, with 22 points. Peter Steinke took the ball draw.
HOPPE TAKES TROPHY
Despite a rainy and bitterly cold day, a reasonable field contested Matt Minehan’s Carpentry Trophy. Most were playing for Dempster Cup positions, bearing in mind it was a quarter-final cut-off day.
The weather did affect the scoring, with Kevin Hoppe making the best of it all with 34 stableford points. All ball winners had 33 points and included John Brownhill, David James, Michael McPake and Tam Kennedy.
Dempster Cup semi-finalists have been decided.
In the club matchplay, it is down to four men. Ben Glover claimed a w/o from Rick Preston, Robert Bates defeated Ian Bruce 3/2, Tam Kennedy def John Brownhill 3/2 and Eric and Herby have played yet the result was not to hand at the time of publication.
This weekend is the men’s tournament. Saturday will see a 4BBB day in scratch men’s and medley divisions, whilst Sunday is men’s singles day. Timesheets are at the club and slots are available. Please ring on 6386 2483.
