Three hit musicals are heading Sydney's way over the next two years with Saturday Night Fever and Waitress both set to make their Australian debut.

Sydney will also host the return season of Chicago, one of the most successful shows in theatre history, NSW Arts Minister Don Harwin announced on Thursday.
Waitress, based on the 2007 independent film, has played to packed-out theatres since its 2016 launch on Broadway.
Saturday Night Fever - made famous by the 1970's film starring John Travolta with music and lyrics written by the Bee Gees - has toured around the world and will hit Australian stages for the first time in 2019.
Chicago, set in the prohibition-era in the 1920s about the corruption and the criminal justice system will also open in 2019, while Waitress will hit the Sydney stage mid-2020
"Chicago is one of the most successful shows in theatre history so it's fitting that Sydney will host the return season of this acclaimed production," Mr Harwin said in a statement on Thursday.
An estimated 60,400 visitors will make their way to Sydney for the glitzy productions, injecting about $28.8 million into the local economy, he predicts.
