The Harden Hawks took on the Binalong Brahmans in the local derby on Saturday at home. The game was pretty even for the first 10 minutes, until Nathan Schofield crossed under the post. He scored again five minutes later, to bring up the Hawks first 12 points.
The Hawks led 22 to 0 at the break and the second half started the same way with a great 50-metre try to Jonathon Pouono.
The Hawks ran out winners 50 to 4, with a try coming after the siren to Binalong, but the game was played in great spirits.
Try scorers were Nathan Schofield and Jonathon Pouono with two each, and one try was scored by each Luke Brown, Ben Davis, Sam Davis, Jayke Hogan and Andrew Reid. Nathan Schofield scored seven goals.
The Hawks lead the competition on percentages, equal with the Canberra Bears and Crookwell in a very tight battle to decide who gets the home advantage for the semi-finals. The boys now have a two-week break before they play ADFA at home.
The Hawkettes
The Hawkettes took on the Binalong Jersey Girls and were very keen from the outset with some great ball movement and team tries.
The girls led 32 to 4 at the break and the second half was dominated by the Hawkettes against the Binalong side who never gave up.
The Hawkettes went on to win 66 to 4 in a great team performance.
Try scorers were Georgia Smith 3, taking her tally to 18 for the year. Maddie Douglas, Tara McGrath West and Casey Smith scored 2 each and one try was scored by each Shannon Hurley, Kate Menz and Clare Smith. Emma James kicked 8 goals from all over the field.
The Hawkettes now have two weeks off. They currently sit undefeated at the top of the ladder at the conclusion of the first round.
Youth League
The boys took on Crookwell at the Green Devil’s hoe ground in what proved to be a very tight match.
Crookwell got off to a Quick start, leading 10 to 0 off the back of a few costly errors, but the Harden/Boorowa side got themselves back into the game.
A great try by Ben Davis and with Jakob Halls making a barging run knocking defenders flying everywhere, the boys led 12 to 10 at the break.
The Harden/Boorowa boys scored early in the second half to lead 18 to 10, but that was the last they saw of the ball for the next 15 minutes. It was all Crookwell, with the Hawks being forced to defend.
Crookwell scored 3 quick tries to lead 26 to 18. Our boys scored a late try, but ran out of time, going down 26 to 24 in a solid performance.
Try scorers were Ben Davis 2; Jackson Halls and Nick Stevens 1 each. Ryan Daley scored 3 goals; Rory Bolger 1.
Best on the day were Paddy Fahet, Ben Davis, Brady Halls and Nick Stevens who never stopped trying.
The boys will now have a week off and will look to bounce back against Tuggeranong in Boroowa in a fortnight’s time.
