First stop is Gundagai, one of Australia’s most iconic towns.
Immortalised in poems and songs alike, Gundagai is still a classic Australian country town with lots to offer in terms of hospitality, heritage and recreation.
Sunday, April 8 is the Gundagai Cup and Ladies Day at the Gundagai Adelong Race Club.
The Gundagai Racecourse is the place to be and the Cup is autumn country racing at its best.
For $20 you can even enjoy a two-course lunch on the track with champagne.

Further north, just one minute off the Hume Highway, you’ll find the not so sleepy village of Jugiong. It’s home to some firm travellers’ favourites, the Long Track Pantry and the Sir George.
Long Track Pantry serves delicious, home-style breakfasts and lunches from Wednesday to Monday and visitors can browse the homewares and extensive range of produce.
Plus, don’t miss the gelato next door at Lickety Splits.
For a longer stop, the Sir George is so much more than a circa 1852 country pub. Beautifully restored, the Sir George is now home to a restaurant, boutique bar and artisan bakery.
There’s even room for the kids to explore and play in the beer garden.
- Visit: www.longtrackpantry.com.au and www.sirgeorge.com.au for more details.
Continue your trip driving through picturesque hills and along winding roads for 35 minutes to find yourself in Cootamundra, another town bursting with country charm.
One of the tourist highlights in Cootamundra is the Captain’s Walk in Jubilee Park.
Here you can wander through 42 sculptures of Australian Test Cricket Captains and Unaarrimim, a famous Aboriginal cricketer who led the first Australian cricket team tour of England in 1868.
Continuing the cricket theme, you can also find Bradman’s Birthplace Museum open seven days a week in the cottage where Sir Donald was born.
