Young Community Transport manager Kelly Rolfe said there has been a demand for an extended bus service between the “Hilltops towns” for some time.
“We will be using the money to undertake a trial of a service between Harden, Boorowa and Young once a week to enable residents to access services and shopping,” Ms Rolfe said.
"We want to make it a Hilltops service driving a circle route leaving from Young to Boorowa and then to Harden and back to Young.
“We will run a morning and afternoon trip.”
Ms Rolfe said the funds will enable a longer test period to make sure the service is sustainable.
"We would like to run a trial to test the market for this service to see if it is viable,” she said.
“We have had a few requests from Young people to go to Harden for the day for visits to retirement villages and back.
"It will be good to give people from all three towns an avenue to maintain contact with friends and relatives in the other towns."
Hilltops mayor Brian Ingram said the money is a good investment in a valuable community organisation.
"Because of the amount of work and good they do for the community the Council believes the money is well spent," he said.
"It is important to acknowledge that they can do the work they do largely because the drivers are voluntary and that is always a positive."
Ms Rolfe said the service would start on April 13 and it will leave from the Young tourist office at the old railway station at approximately 8.30am.
"We will charge $10 for a return trip or $5 for a one-way trip, and if it becomes well patronised, and a lot of people end up using it we would be able to run it as a viable venture," she said.
To make use of the service people have to register with Young Community Transport by phoning 6382 1518.
