It's believed work on a fence gate may have caused the fire on Wednesday during total fire ban.
During total fire bans, spark emitting appliances are not permitted in open spaces.
South West Slopes RFS Zone’s district co-ordinator Inspector Tom McDevitt said the fire started at 1.30pm on Wednesday and was contained at 4am on Thursday.
“Crews worked extremely hard to bring the fire under control,” he said.
At the height of the fire three aircraft and 18 fire trucks called to the blaze.
Firefighters helped contain the blaze by back burning to establish control lines.
During Thursday there just still around 24 people, seven fire tankers, one bulldozer and an aircraft helping to mop up.
“Brigades were prepared for a fire on a day like [Wednesday], the rapid response by volunteers is the reason the fire was contained to the area it was, given the weather conditions and terrain.”
Inspector McDevitt said brigades were called from the zone’s east including around Harden and Boorowa and extra assistance arrived from the Southern Tablelands Zone.
