Gundagai highway patrol officers detected a white vehicle zipping along at 150km/h at Jugiong shortly before 4pm on Sunday.

Police saw the vehicle drive up behind another car, which was travelling at the speed limit.

“(Officers saw it) commence to slow down and travel too close for a period of time before overtaking,” police said.

The white vehicle was stopped and the the 31-year-old Albury man behind the wheel produced a NSW learner drivers licence. 

Learner drivers are restricted to 90km/h and must be accompanied by a fully-licenced driver.

A check of the female front passenger, a Victorian woman, revealed she held a Victorian probationary licence.

The man’s licence was suspended immediately and he is now facing six months off the road and more than $3800 in fines.

He was fined for a total of four offences –  infringement for exceeding his speed limit by more than 45km/h, learner driver unaccompanied, drive behind other vehicle too closely to stop safely and not displaying L plates.
