The monastery will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in March 2018, and you are invited to attend.
The building’s history began in the late 1820s, when Irish convict Edward ‘Ned’ Ryan settled there.
The Ryan family introduced new forms of farming techniques, which resulted in wealth and success for them and the wider community.
Through the will of Ned’s son John Nagle Ryan, the property was passed onto the Redemptorist Congregation who established a monastery named for St Clement Hofbauer in 1918.
About 2000 young men were educated at Galong before the college closed in 1975 and a retreat was established.
Greta Bradman, soprano with Opera Australia, will be performing at St Clement’s Retreat on Saturday, March 10, 2018 to celebrate 100 years since the founding of the monastery.
Tickets are on sale now and available by telephoning St Clements on 6380 5222.
