The girls combined well and spread the ball through the hands consistently and this rewarded the fans for braving the freezing conditions as they cheered on the many Hawkettes tries.
The twinnies secured a bag full and it was great to see captain Kate run near the length of the field for a well earned touch down.
Samantha Doolan was grinning like a cheshire cat after she strode through the middle of the defence for a deserved try under the sticks – she celebrated with a little horse kick as this was her first “dogs-eye” since primary school.
As much as the girls loved the attacking side of the game, coach Pollard and onlookers were equally impressed with their defence – lead by Em James, Katie Butt, Jess Doolan and the twinnies who were scurrying all over the park tearing off those tags. It was great to see Liv Howe back on the field and her cool head and nearly healed legs added stability to the Hawkettes.
Players player couldn’t be split with Em James and Katie Butt sharing the honours and coach Pollard said that these girls also featured in the B&F awards alongside Liv Howe.
Maddie Douglass was extremely safe in the blustery conditions at the back as was Casey and Shauny on the flanks. Final score 56-6.
The girls meet UC Grizzles at home Saturday.
