THE last month has been a whirlwind introduction to local government. I want to pay tribute to council staff for the enormous amount of work they are doing to make sure the councillors are up to speed.

I also want to acknowledge the incredible work that was done by the Interim Council to do the groundwork for many exciting projects. We have such diversity in the range of activities and projects across Hilltops and it begins to show what is possible with the pooling of resources.
The teamwork between councillors and staff in our weekly workshops has been effective in ensuring good communication and transparency.
On a personal level, I am excited to start working for the community through the Advisory and Section 355 committees.
The level of information these committees provide to councillors is impressive and helps us understand the context and background to projects so that we make well-informed decisions.
I hope everyone is taking the opportunity to engage with us in the development of our Community Strategic Plan. This is an avenue for everyone to make their views heard so that we can produce a plan that is reflective of all members of our combined communities.
A project that I have been happy to work with, in Harden, is Flexible Care. During the campaign period I was approached by several people about rebates for transport and accommodation and I am happy to announce that there are rebates available for using Flexible Care’s community transport, through the IPTAAS forms.
These are available from Flexible Care, Kruger Centre and www.enable.health.nsw.gov.au.
