There is often little recognition of the huge value that volunteers bring to an organisation and the efforts provided by volunteers, yet there is a continual need and calls for more volunteers each and every day.
High profile, high return community based functions such as the Harden Kite Festival, the Boorowa Irish Woolfest and the Young Cherry Festival are often heavily reliant on volunteers to make many of these Hilltops events the outstanding successes that they are.
As we move into summer there comes an opportunity for us to recognise the huge contribution that the volunteer plays in protecting property, people and places from fire.
The NSW Rural Fire Service is a world class service that arguably could not function if it were not for the volunteer.
Many tragic fires could have been even more devastating, and countless small fires would not have been contained and extinguished, if it were not for the selfless acts of the volunteers who staff the various Rural Fire Brigades.
Local service clubs such as Rotary, Apex and Lions are all fine examples of volunteers who, in the spirit of service, are prepared to assist in almost any way that they can.
To all the volunteers I say “thank you”; you are very special people who should be appreciated and celebrated.
From all your efforts, our communities derive many benefits that a tolerant, inclusive and respectful society can value. Hilltops, and indeed all of Australia is a better place because of you.
