Council certainly recognises the flow-on effects such a strong visitor economy can produce and is actively supporting our tourism industry and fostering its growth.
One event that generates significant financial returns for our local industries is the Boorowa Irish Woolfest.
Now in its 21st year, the Woolfest continues to go from strength to strength. One of the major tourism drawcards on the region’s calendar, the event attracts visitors from far and wide, with close to 15,000 attending the weekend-long celebrations.
In order to truly capitalise on the influx of visitors, Council is for the first time this year, providing a shuttle bus service to and from the event from a number of key locations across the district.
This will help open up opportunities for local businesses throughout the entire Hilltops region and ensure we leverage the event in a way that maximises the benefits it brings.
Woolfest visitor numbers have quickly outgrown available accommodation in Boorowa, so the bus transfers from Jugiong, Harden, Young and Murringo to Boorowa will not only make available further lodging options, it will ensure tourists are exposed to the full Hilltops experience. See irishwoolfest.com.au for more.
Council is also working hard to boost visitor numbers all year ‘round, recently partnering with Visit Canberra to establish and enhance cross-promotional marketing opportunities, including $10,000 sponsorship from Visit Canberra to promote tourism in the Hilltops region.
