WITH the local government election fast approaching, my time as council administrator is drawing to a close. The administrator’s role for the new Hilltops Council was always going to controversial; that presented many challenges; but importantly, presented many opportunities to make a difference to our communities and to the region. Merging three local government areas (LGAs) has certainly been challenging, but the task has been made easier thanks to the professionalism shown by the staff former LGAs. Since the Hilltops Council was created in May last year, council staff have demonstrated a dedication to both their work and their community that is most commendable, and I thank them sincerely for their help in ensuring Hilltops residents received seamless service delivery throughout the amalgamation process.

I’m pleased to say that through the introduction of a range of council initiatives, we’ve seen the implementation of streamlined administration services to improve customer experiences, a range of cost-saving and efficiency measures to ensure more money is invested in the local community, the consolidation of tendering for various services, along with the development of exciting plans for the future including in education, health, agribusiness, tourism and other vital industries.
I’d also very much like to thank the members of the Local Representative Committees. Their input during the period of administration has been invaluable to me. The potential of the area is vast; we’re ideally situated to capitalise on a range of opportunities, and to build on existing strengths in order to create a vibrant economy and a rich culture that will benefit residents both now and in the years to come.
