The 50-year old was chainsawing for firewood near Temora after 8am when the tree came down unexpectedly, trapping him and severely impacting his head, chest and leg.
Emergency services worked to rescue the man who was rushed to Wagga Hospital shortly after 9am.
The patient was stabilised and later flown to St George Hospital in Sydney, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
