The perpetrator was reportedly mad as a cut snake – because it was one.
A small baby brown snake managed to find its way into trouble, but wary officers had the situation under control, according to the Cootamundra Local Area Command Facebook page.
The offender was escorted out of the dock and gently given a move along direction from the police station.
Unless there is a risk to others the police recommended using professionals as most bites occur when people are trying to harm the snakes, or surprise them.
It is also an offence to kill brown snakes, so police used a shovel to assist in the move along direction – not to put it on death row.
Cootamundra LAC Sergeant Jim Prentice said more than 4200 breath tests were performed over the long weekend with “favourable ratios” of law-abiding drivers.
However, Sergeant Prentice raised concerns over the 13 unrestrained passenger infringements issued.
