In a format not often played, the large field of golfers enjoyed the late Autumn weather for a fun day out on Easter Saturday. The event was a 4BBB Stableford Multipler and our hosts and sponsors for the day were Craig and Toni Filmer. Unlike a standard 4BBB Stableford where the best score of the pairing is rewarded, both need to score in a multiplier so that a result is returned. Even our hosts returned no score for 5 of their first 6 holes before getting into the groove and almost competing for a ball each in the ball comp.

Matt Piesley and John Brownhill fell into their groove fastest and racked up some big points together to win the day’s outing. True to form, Matt and John belted out 89 points, leaving many more out there it is told. The lower score in the field on the day, just to prove how wicked this format has the potential to be, was a grim 34 points – 55 points adrift of our leaders.
The ball competition went back to 74 points and these were awarded to Kevin Hoppe/Ron Page – 84 points, Eric Kuhn/Tam Kennedy 79 points, Robert Bates/Darrell Cassidy 78 points, and Ron Kerr/Michael McPake with 74 points. Our Bendigo Bank Whopper Account Hole in One did not go off but our consolation prize for nearest the pin on the day went to Maryanne Fitzgerald who threw her tee shot in to 4.25 metres.
Cassidy Back to Form
It’s been a fairly long hiatus but our man Darrell Cassidy has transferred some of his Sunday Skins form into an individual Comp win. On Monday a group of the boys rolled up for a walk the chocolate off roll-up stableford. In a very tough school, Darrell has put together a 2 over par round of 45 stableford points (or 73 off the stick) to clear out the field and make a dint in his Club Eclectic rounds. Whispers around the Club after this round are that Darrell has charged back into single figures where he rightly belongs.
Also shooting 73 off the stick was Kevin Hoppe who had 41 points. Applying the hand brake and sharing second place was the mercurial Eric Kuhn who was unusually wayward with a few putts after noticing Darrell’s blistering form yet still he recorded a great round of 41 points as well. Robert Bates was just off the money also with his 40 point round. The Bendigo Bank Whopper Account Hole in One did not go off on Monday either. Craig Filmer hacked one in to 4.2 metres to claim the consolation ball for nearest the pin.
David James Takes a Modest Victory
This week, one only had to shoot a par round in the 12 hole and 24 point stableford comp format. The man to do this was David James who indeed had 24 points. Not happy that a winner could not break if they shot their handicap, the handicapper has spat the dummy and fined David 1 shot for the victory. Graham Taylor, Billy Kildea and Peter Steinke all equalled for 2nd place with 21 points.
