The 18-year-old was heading home at about 2.30pm when she lost control of her vehicle near the intersection of Brawlin Road.
Cootamundra Police report that she veered onto the incorrect side of the roadway and down a large embankment before colliding with a number of trees.
The force of the impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle and trapped the driver.
Due to the embankment, the vehicle could not be seen from the roadway and it was not until a local man and an off-duty police officer travelled along the road at about 3pm that the wreck was discovered and the alarm was raised.
Emergency services from Police, Ambulance, NSW Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Service attended the scene with Rescue and Ambulance officers working for nearly three hours in difficult circumstances due to the position of the vehicle to free the girl.
She was taken to Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital suffering serious lower limb and suspected spinal injuries.
Police reported on Thursday morning that she was in a stable condition.
Police say the wet weather, with Cootamundra experiencing a significant downpour during the day, was a factor due to the need to modify driving behaviour according to conditions, however at this stage the exact cause of the accident is still to be determined.
The women underwent mandatory blood and urine testing, with Police continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Muttama Road was closed during the rescue operation with traffic diverted along Jugiong Road.
