It has taken a long time to get there for various reasons, but the club triples semi finals were finally played last weekend.
The results were: Rod James, Kyle Murray and Cary Peters defeated Tom Apps, Rueben Rycroft and Tony Zervos with a score of 23-20.
A good game of bowls, with all bowlers playing quite well. Tom, Rueben and Tony got away to a good start to lead 8-nil after five ends.
However, at the halfway mark, Rod, Kyle and Cary had reduced their lead to two shots at 8-10.
Rod, Kyle and Cary struck a ‘purple patch’ winning seven of the next eight ends to lead with a score of 22-12.
With five ends to play, Tom, Rueben and Tony faced a difficult task. They were able to score six shots on the 17th and 18th ends to put them back in the match, trailing by four shots.
With three ends to play, they scored two shots to Rod’s one, but had run out of time and went down by three shots.
In what was expected to be a close match, Craig Phillis, Barney Heywood and David Walker defeated John Peterson, Brian Gibson and Derek Heywood with a score of 24-10.
Craig, Barney and David got away to a flying start to lead 8-nil after only three ends. John and his team fought back strongly over the next 10 ends to get within three shots of Craig, Barney and David at 9-12. However, from that point on it was all Craig, Barney and David as they raced away to an easy win.
Craig, Barney and David will now play Rod James, Kyle Murray and Cary Peters in the final, on a date yet to be fixed.
