The season has been dogged by foul weather, with the last two rounds being washed out after heavy rain saw the districts grounds waterlogged.
The Harden club has two sides competing in the finals this weekend. The Bendigo Bank 9s finished the season on top of the ladder, and go into their semi final against Cootamundra hoping to continue their very successful season. A win against Cootamundra will get the Bendigo Bankers into the afternoon’s grand final match. Look for big games from the likes of Jack Brooker, Charlie Lenehan, Brooke Emms, Isaac Brown and Chaz Cooper to get the locals across the line. This side has been dominant for most of the season, and thoroughly deserves to go into their game with confidence.
Also lining up for Harden are the 12/13 Kennett Rural side, which snuck up into second place at the end of the competition rounds. This side has flown under the radar, winning consistently without being completely dominant. In their semi-final, Kennetts take on one of the two Tumut Black teams, who have been a fairly tough match for them in previous encounters. The last time the two met resulted in a draw, however, so the Harden team goes in with some hope. The two Tumut Black teams have been dominant throughout the season, and the first placed team is odds-on to get through to the final and will face the winner of the Harden game. Mitchell Brown and Hayley Chesworth bring years of finals experience, and the speed and skills from players like Chloe Wade, Jack Sargent, Jack Kennett and Sam Emms should give Harden a fighting chance.
The Lubealloy 14/15 team finished a fighting fifth place, and were a mathematical chance until the washout rounds ruined their chances for a top four finish. The Lighthorse 14/15 team finished just behind them in sixth place. Harden’s 12/13 Coopers Butchery side finished the season in seventh place, and despite finishing tenth, the Country Club 10/11 side showed their enthusiasm to the end.
The season will wrap up for the Harden Soccer Club this month, with presentations being held at Roberts Park on Thursday, September 22, starting at 4.30 pm. All players and parents are invited to attend.
