Juniors
The Harden Automotive, Harden Country Club and Cross Build’s U12 Tag girls caused an upset to beat arch rivals Young after a poor start by our girls with all the action being played down their end of the field.
Only the big boot of Katie Rose O’Connor was able to relieve some pressure by kicking down field.
Young scored the first try out wide in the corner and it looked like it could be a hard day at the office.
But the girls picked up and with an individual run from Hunter Ings, who showed plenty of speed to burn the Young Cherryettes to score, but were unable to convert the try. With the girls back to 4-6 Young’s way, Young again applied the pressure and took an intercept on the girls line, making the score 10-4 at half-time.
After the break the girls found another gear, and some smart work from dummy half, Imogen Pye scored a sneaky try, but again the conversion went astray, down 8-10, with five minutes remaining.
The girls applied the blow torch and were rewarded with a great team try from Amelia Leitner Ford and were able to hold on through a nailbitting few minutes to win 12-10 to book a place in the grand final in Harden.
The Boorowa/Harden Brown Farming, Piesley Transport and Coopers Butchery U13s travelled to Junee on Saturday to take on the Temora Dragons in the first semi-final.
In perfect conditions, Temora got on the board to take a early lead 4-0, with some great defence being led by Brendan Welch, Ben Klose and Matt Canellis.
The boys struck back with two tries to Joie Whybrow and tries to Cooper Cross, James Collins and Anthony Brown. The boys went into the break up 26-10.
In the second half some poor ball control led to a early Temora try before the side knuckled down to get back into the game with a superb try to Cooper Cross and another to James Collins and Joie Whybrow.
The boys ran out victorious by 38-16.
This weekend they travel to Cootamundra to take on Wagga Kangaroos for a spot in the grand final at 12.30pm.
