Cootamundra Saleyards and Associated Agents yarded 10,700 sheep and lambs at their fortnightly sale last Wednesday, April 20, an increase of more than 2000 from the previous sale.

The sale was made up of 5040 lambs, 3432 ewes, 925 hoggets, 654 wethers, 160 old sheep and 489 rams.
As the season stays dry numbers increased, with overall quality declining, and a large portion of livestock showing dryness.
There was a bigger number of store lambs present with re-stockers active but also selective on these lines.
Medium to heavy trade lambs sold between $120 and $140. Lighter trade lambs made between $100 and $120 to be fully firm.
Lighter and unfinished lambs sold to the re-stocker at prices between $61 and $95 to be $2 to $3 off the pace on the previous sale.
Once again, the Stockinbingal area topped the market with Keith and Allan Pether presenting a pen of XB lambs which had been on pellets that made $140.
With an $8 jacket and an estimated 26.5kg CW they came back at $5/kg CW.
Stockinbingal also had the top pen of merino Lambs with JB&B Fisher sending a pen that fetched $130.
With estimated CW of 24kg and a $13 skin, these came back at $4.85/kg CW.
Most trade lambs ranged from $5 to $5.20/kg CW to be 10 cents better than last sale.
A mixed run of mutton was on offer with prices back slightly. Light to medium mutton was back $3 to $5 although heavy mutton was eagerly sought after and was up to $5 dearer than the previous sale.
Heavy mutton with big jackets sold to a top of $109, while medium framed merino ewes sold between $54 and $84 to the processor.
Light ewes sold from $20 to $50, up $5.
Heavy XB ewes with big skins made up to $100. Most mutton sold in the $2.90 to $3.10/kg CW.
There was a good yarding of hoggets and once again they met very solid competition reaching a top of $104.
Rams sold to $92.00, averaging $40.
