British rocker Pete Doherty will be the first artist to perform at the Bataclan, the concert venue where 89 people were killed in the Paris terrorist attacks, when it reopens in November.

The venue has remained closed since terrorists opened fire during an Eagles of Death Metal concert on November 13.

Doherty, the wayward former Libertines and Babyshambles frontman, will take to the stage on November 16 as part of a tour for a new solo album out in September. The Bataclan website described him as "the last real English rock star".

Also coming up will be concerts in November and December by Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour, US alt-rockers Nada Surf and French rappers MZ.

In a statement posted across the Bataclan's social media, the company said it did not have an exact reopening date yet, but that renovations had been ongoing.

"We will try to preserve its warmth and friendliness. We want to maintain the popular and festive spirit that has always been here," the statement said.

Eagles of Death Metal returned to Paris in February, playing the city's Olympia theatre to an audience which included Bataclan survivors, in a symbolic move to "finish" the show that came to a tragic end during the attacks.
