If you like to read, recite, perform or listen to poetry, get yourself to the Shearing Pavilion at the Yass Showground, 8.30-10.30am on Sunday April 10 for a feast of alliteration, rhyme, simile and metaphor.
Our open microphone means an inclusive and welcoming format that gives poets the chance to share their work and enjoy the camaraderie of kindred spirits.
As an added bonus, there are prizes for juniors who participate. Can you pick the Best Presented Poem by a Junior? Or which young up-and-coming poet should get an Encouragement Award for reading/performing their own work?
All poetry lovers, the interested and the curious are invited to hear local and visiting poets give voice to the stories of today, tomorrow and yesteryear. There’ll be humour and pathos, rollicking yarns and a dash of slapstick as the performers strut their stuff, marshalled by MC and Australian Champion bush poet Robyn Sykes, who will also share some of her award-winning poems with the audience.
You’ll be able to find the Bowning and District Lions barbecue simply by following the smell of the sausages, steak, bacon and eggs as the men and women in aprons cook breakfast in the Pony Club barbecue area. They’ll also have tea/coffee/soft drinks available. Why not grab breakfast and bring it with you to the poetry?
Entry to the Shearing Pavilion is via the showground main gate with a valid show ticket. There is no additional charge for the Poets’ Breakfast or for parking once inside the Showground.
Sunday only tickets to the Yass Show cost $15 adults, $5 children (no pass outs). A membership gives unlimited entry to the Yass Show for both Saturday and Sunday and costs $50 per family, $35 per couple or $25 single.
