Fine weather greeted the Harden Murrumburrah and district residents at Newson Park on Tuesday morning as the shire officially celebrated their official Australia Day celebrations where a size-able crowd from the local community gathered for a BBQ breakfast and to be reminded of what it means to be Australian.

Robyn and Paul Atherton were named as joint Harden Citizens of the Year, while Stewart and Helen Bruce took out the Community Involvement award, Pauline Randall and John Daley were declared as Senior Citizens of the Year. Kayla Daley was announced as the Junior Citizen of the Year and Roy Levett was given a community award.
Other highlights included a passionate patriotic talk given by Australia Day Ambassador and Olympian shooter Warren Potent and also by Mayor John Horton.
Assisted by new Acting General Manager Sharon Langman, Clr Horton also had the privilege of inviting and welcoming three new members to become citizens of Australia, including Ms Liesbeth Borburgh, Ms Deepa Prabhakaran Nair and Parthip Goparkumar.
Early comers arriving from 8am onward were greeted with a hearty barbeque breakfast and Councillor Chris Manchester was the Emcee for the event.
Clr. Horton spoke about all that is great about Australia and he also gave a stirring speech all of the shire to register and show their support at the state government merger inquiry meeting at the Harden Country Club on Friday, February 5 (9am-12pm) and to the community meeting at the Mechanics Institute on Tuesday.
Towards the end of show a number of organizations came forward to receive grants courtesy of the Harden Shire Council and official proceedings wound with everyone standing and singing the national anthem.
Stewart Bruce did well on the keyboard all morning playing a host of other classic Australian tunes across the morning and out at Wombat the annual tractor pull proved to be popular once again. Check out Australia Day photos on page 8 and 9.
