James McDonald might be the retained jockey at Godolphin but for punters his combination with premier trainer Chris Waller has become lethal this season.
Godolphin books McDonald 10 days out for his rides leaving the champion hoop opportunities to be used by outside yards and when he is available the former New Zealander has become Waller's go-to man.
He has ridden 18 winners for John O'Shea, striking at 18 per cent, this season but when Waller can get him, McDonald has 15 wins from 39 rides and is showing a more than 90 per cent profit for punters.
Those impressive figures look likely to continue as he rides Telepathic, a $1.60 chance with Ladbrokes, for Waller on Saturday, before donning his fellow Kiwi's colours when he rides Electrifyin'.
Telepathic drops to the limit weight of 54kg after lumping 59.5, 60.5 and 59.5 kilos at her three starts this preparation where she has progressed from third to second and finally scoring a convincing win last start.
She looks like the 2000m of the ATC Cup will suit her before a possible drop back to the mile for the Villiers Stakes in a fortnight.
Electrifyin' has found form after the blinkers were added three starts ago and he has also found soft tracks at his past two where he scored at Canterbury before going down narrowly when third at Randwick on Melbourne Cup day.
He is out of his grade, which is unusual for the Waller stable, and will not get any give in the track, so Ladbrokes are prepared to gamble against Electrifyin', making him a $9 chance in a race where Happy Clapper looks the one to beat at $3.70.
McDonald has a couple of great chances for his boss Sheikh Mohammed, in particular It's Somewhat in the listed Festival Stakes, which is the easiest race he has faced since arriving in Australia.
The gun hoop was on board when It's Somewhat made his Australian debut breaking the 1300m Warwick Farm track record in the Liverpool City Cup in February. While he hasn't won since, his three starts have been in the George Ryder Stakes and a couple of group 2s in the spring, when he was affected by a virus.
He was an Eclipse Stakes placegetter in England but O'Shea has found some speed in his legs and the 1500m at Rosehill should be ideal. McDonald will be able to have the $5.50 Ladbrokes second favourite in the first three pairs from barrier four and It's Somewhat appears to have a class edge on his rivals.
Ghisoni might be McDonald's best ride of the afternoon at $2.70. She won her only start at Warwick Farm where she was involved in a speed battle before booming clear to win by 1-3/4 lengths from a group of swoopers.
When McDonald put one on her behind she gave a swoosh of the tail as if to wave goodbye to her rivals and it could be the same result at Rosehill.
