Another great weekend for the sports-minded people. All we seemed to do was chase around looking for a new freezer to replace the one that carked it recently and, would you believe it, could not find an appropriate one in the area. Looks like we might need to go a little further afield.

Perhaps we can buy one next weekend at Mrs Elaine Dougherty's clearing sale. Elaine has decided to downsize considerably from her large four bedroom house in Binalong and eventually move to something smaller in Canberra. Former local auctioneer John Clark will conduct the sale on Sunday morning commencing at 9am prior to the sale at the Royal Tara. Elaine's house will also eventually be on the market though as yet it has not been advertised. Another friend moving from Binalong .
Rumours that Percy was to be brought home seem to be unfounded as I just read a post on Facebook from his daughter Alisha to say that he has gradually been brought out of the coma but remains very unwell. He is still relying on a breathing tube and she says that so far he has had six skin graft surgeries. It was such a terrible thing to have happened and a terrible ordeal he has been enduring, and seemingly, the ordeal is far from over. Our thoughts are with him.
Lil Arabin celebrated a very special birthday recently with family and friends at the Hotel Binalong. I will let her tell you which one but I will give you a clue. When I came here as an 18 year old (trying) to teach, she was one of my seven year old pupils. How the time has gone eh Lil?
Locals were thrilled at the weekend to hear the news that former local girl, Hannah Fetterplace and her husband Ian Edwards (they live in Yass) had become the proud parents of two babies, a little girl and a little boy. The little bloke, who arrived quite a time before his sister, is to be named Cooper James and the little girl is Evie Louise. That makes Kim and Lyn grandparents and Gwen Sykes a great grandmother. Isn't it wonderful to hear such happy news?
In the school Bulletin, Mr Bennett tells us that their technology problems have been half fixed. The computers are back on line at half speed but the phone system is still a problem and they are awaiting an expert to come and repair or condemn the present system. Oh, the joys of technology! I bet they hope the new library system, "OLIVER", can be installed without problems. Mrs Smith has been training to learn the ins and outs of the new system.
The kids had a wonderful day for the football and netball carnival at Boorowa last Friday.
Students are required to be in full summer uniforms for their photos to be taken on Thursday 29th October.
Students have been invited to a "paddock to plate" day at Murrumburrah High School on 4th November. They will be involved in activities such as milking a cow, cheese making, honey production etc. I hope the city schools have the same opportunity so they will realise that the milk does not start in a carton or bottle or honey in an honey pot. And I bet most do not grow their own vegetables at school as out little ones do.
Mrs Liz Knight is showing the youngsters some guided drawing activities, abstract and expressive ways of doing so which they really enjoy. They are also very fortunate to have well known artists, Al and Sara Phemister leading a puppet theatre workshop for the infant's classes and a wire sculpture workshop for the older ones. Very lucky kids indeed. Mr John Schofield and Mrs Robin Winterflood will commence guitar and brass lessons again this week. All those willing artists and musicians should be awarded some gold stars too. Students who received the stars this week were Dane Howard, Jack Trethowan and Nolan Yates.
Sunday golfers played for trophies donated by John Flanery and Mavis Armour. Mavis's trophy has been waiting for a fine day for the last year or more and finally that day came and Monica Field was the successful player. Peter Curtis took John's trophy home.
Next week's programme is a bit "iffy" at the moment so I would suggest that players contact the club before arriving there to attack the course. On the programme are two Ambrose events, a two person Ambrose on Saturday for Peter Glover's trophies and a three person Ambrose on Sunday for Tom Duffy's trophies. Very much subject to change so make that phone call first.
A team of bowlers, Ned Kelly, Phil Wales, Mick Dal Danto and Tommy Glover represented the club at the Coota President's Day on Sunday. Alas no prizes. Next Sunday is the local president's day here and I believe so many players are committed elsewhere that they are struggling to make up the numbers. A sure sign of the times.
Our thoughts are with Bill Cotter who is very ill in the Harden hospital.
Until next time.
