Harden Cricket Club president and coach Matthew Schofield is hoping that the Hornets will give sides a few headache when they prepare to take to the field on Saturday for the first time in season 2015/16.

Competing for the Trigg Shield A Grade trophy in the Yass and District Cricket Association the Harden boys will get their chance to set the tone for their season early on Saturday, when they take on neighbouring town rivals Boorowa, at the club’s home ground Doolan Oval, while the club’s B-grade side travel away to Boorowa to take on the same town on the synthetic.
This season the men from the twin towns will need to find some more consistency if they are to match it with the bigger clubs from Yass.
Once again Schofield, is expected to lead the charge with the bat and he should get some good support from all-rounder brother Nathan and wicket-keeper batsman Jason Pollard.
The Hornets home ground Doolan Oval, is in terrific condition at the moment, after seeing next to no traffic throughout the winter months. The wicket is highly regarded throughout the region, as there is a bit in it for all the bowlers and with a little concentration early in the innings, batsman can play themselves in on it.
Spare a thought for Matty Schofield. Not only is he the president and captain-coach of the first grade side, but he is also the main curator of a time consuming turf wicket.
But the self confessed cricket tragic wouldn’t have it any other way.
“It’s just what you do,” he said.
This year the Hornets squad including Matthew Schofield (captain-coach), Nathan Schofield, Jason Pollard, Kelvin Brown, Tom Foster, Will Manwaring, Rob Bunt, Jeffrey Brown, Todd Spackman, Billy Bolger, Martin Brown, Greg Brown, Mitchell Brown, Andrew Jones, Robert Scott, Tim Herring, Jason Smith and Craig Henman, will combine with several youngsters to get the job done for Harden.
With the pavilion overlooking the ground and its white picket fence around the perimiter, Doolan Oval is a wonderful place to watch cricket.and is a real treat for all cricket purists. Supporters are encouraged to get down and cheer on the local lads. Matches start at 12.30pm.
A grade play 45 overs per side and five bowlers can bowl a maximum of nine overs each, while the B grade competition plays 40 overs each team, with five bowlers having a limit of eight overs per player.
In the only other Yass and District game being played this week, Dalton host Murrumbateman in the other combined B and C grade game this weekend with Binalong starting up on October 17.
