At Jugiong Public School, students are enjoying private lessons in piano, keyboard and guitar as well as group lessons with marimbas and ukuleles.
There is also a vocal training aspect to the lessons.
This is part of the Young Regional School of Music’s commitment to bringing music to all towns and villages and ensuring no-one misses the opportunity to learn because of a burden of distance.
Music instructor Rupert Hyde, said the earlier children get into music the better.
“All children have it (musical talent) in them, it is just a matter of allowing them to channel it,” Mr Hyde said.
Students choose to learn the music which appeals to them from classical hits to current favourites.
“We encourage kids to select the music they enjoy, if they’re doing playing something they like they’re more inclined to learn it and stick with it,” Mr Hyde said.
Coming from a background as a band member, My Hyde is keen to share his talent with others and said it has been an enjoyable experience teaching the kids.
“They are unbelievably enthusiastic, it’s great to pass on that love of music” he commented.
The classes, organised by school principal Judy Judy McFadyen, will be ongoing.
Each of the school’s 29 students are involved in music one way or another, whether through private lessons or group classes.
Wednesdays have been a day where mornings are looked forward to by the students keen to work on their musical masterpieces from the week before.
