Hosted by Canberra On the Water and run in conjunction with the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, the event attracts anglers from Canberra, Wagga Wagga, Gundagai, Young and everywhere in between.
Over 150 Harden locals have already made the trek up to Burrinjuck and some will sneak back on Saturday afternoon to watch their beloved Hawks who are playing in a preliminary final against the Yass Magpies at McLean Oval.
A number of Harden Murrumburrah businesses have supported the event in a wonderful display of generosity from the twin towns.
Two members of the locally based Deep Hole Fishing Club, John Hawkins and Rodney Whittington, said they are looking forward to getting out in the water all in the name of a good cause.
“It is always a great weekend over there every year, with lots of people getting behind it and they come from as far as Wagga and Canberra,” said Mr Whittington.
“Greg was a popular figure and a terrific bloke and he loved his fishing, so it’s a good way to remember him and to support a great cause,” said Mr Hawkins.
Prizes will be given to the following catches:
Longest Murray Cod (junior and senior), longest yellow belly (junior and senior), longest red fin (junior and senior), longest carp (junior and senior) and the mystery length (Greg Whitehead Memorial Trophy).
