The Davis brothers are third-generation Harden-Murrumburrah farmers, and after an extended period of dry weather in February and March they were preparing to sell a herd of “reject” sheep to preserve the land for their more prestigious sheep and lambs.
“We were nearly going to cash them in the other day, I’m glad it rained, we’ll get another $40 for them,” Patrick said.
That’s $40 a head for dozens of sheep thanks to 60 millilitres of rain over the Easter long weekend.
The farm is looking green again, and the Davis brothers will be looking to the skies for another top up.
“Hopefully over the next two to three weeks we get more rain, that would really set us up for winter,” he said.
