Foundation Sibelco Australia has provided the bonus to the not-for-profit education fund that raises funds to assist local school leavers in achieving their future educational and career goals.
“We are very grateful to Sibelco for this generous donation,” Charlotte Middleton, President of the HDEF and teacher at Murrumburrah High School said.
“Young Australians in rural and remote areas are as bright and ambitious as those living in metropolitan centres, but when it comes to higher education and jobs, so very many of them are missing out.
“We recognise that the cost of rural students pursuing their post high school goals is often much greater than those of their metropolitan counterparts, and this donation from Sibelco will certainly provide more opportunities for our local students.”
Sibelco, an industrial minerals company with a Limestone quarry at Galong, is committed to supporting the local communities in which it operates and will be assisting a number of community groups and projects in Harden and the surrounding areas throughout 2015 and beyond.
The Harden District Education Foundation is a branch of the Country Education Foundation (CEF) which helps rural and regional communities to establish their own local education foundations.
Starting with a single foundation in Boorowa in 1993 the CEF family has grown into a network of more than 40 education foundations across Australia.
“We’re proud to be supporting the work of the Harden District Education Foundation and to provide options for youth when it comes to training, further study and vocational aspirations,” Brian Stokes of Sibelco said.
CEF fundraises throughout the year and accepts donations to provide financial grants to students who need an extra helping hand.
