ACTIVITIES in Jugiong to mark the 150-year commemoration of the death of Sergeant Edmund Parry at the hand of bushrangers start at 10am this Saturday, November 15.

A re-enactment of the fierce gun battle that claimed Sergeant Parry’s life will be followed by a street parade and commemoration service to this local hero.
There will also be a performance by the NSW Police Band, ACT Pipe Band along with other activities such as children’s activities, pony/carriage rides, farmers market, emergency service static displays, historic displays, food stalls, Light Horse and horse events.
The parade will start at 10am followed by a Commemoration Ceremony in the Jugiong Riverside Park.
The first re-enactment will held between 10:30am and 10:45am. The NSW Police Band will be performing from 11:30am to 12:30pm and the AFP Pipe Band will be performing from 1:30pm to 2pm. The second re-enactment will start at bout 2.30pm.
Any monies raised on the day will be donated to the Jugiong Advancement Group for community facilities and improvements along with the New South Wales Police Legacy to help support the families of police killed in the line of duty.
Sgt Parry, of Gundagai Police, was shot dead by the bushranger John Gilbert on November 16, 1864 in a gun battle at Jugiong.
