THE Lachlan Valley Railway (LVR) has announced ‘Steam To The Riverina’, a one-way steam train trip to Cootamundra to position the LVR’s engines and carriages in readiness for their October extravaganza, ‘Steam On The Southern Line’ - to be held on October 11 and 12.

Join the Lachlan Valley Railway and ride behind steam locomotives 3237 and 5917 in their ornate, wooden, 1930s compartment carriages on the one-way transfer trip from Central Station, Sydney, to Cootamundra on Monday, October 6 (return journeys are to be self-organised with either NSW TrainLink or via other personal means) or have the option of alighting at any planned stops.
Tickets can be purchased on the day, on the train.
The ‘Steam To The Riverina’ trip is to be hauled by LVR steam locomotives 3237 & 5917 “double-heading” with assistance by an LVR heritage diesel locomotive.
The train will depart Sydney Central on the morning of Monday, October 6 at 8am, picking up at Picton at 9:45am, Moss Vale at 12noon, Goulburn at 2:30pm, Gunning at 3:25pm (set down only for passengers boarding the Sydney bound XPT), Yass at 5pm (to pick up passengers who travelled from Harden on the XPT) and arrive at Harden 6:10pm to set down passengers only.
Following the arrival in Cootamundra, the LVR will be running the rail extravaganza, ‘Steam On The Southern Line’ on October 11 and 12, running steam train shuttles with locomotive 5917 from Cootamundra to Junee, passing over the famous Bethungra spiral, with Vintage CPH Railmotors running from Temora and Stockinbingal to Cootamundra.
