The festival, which will be held on Saturday, October 11, has become an iconic event in the region’s calendar with people travelling from near and far for a safe, affordable family friendly day out in the fresh country air.
This year will see the return of the popular climbing wall, manned by professional staff and free to the folk attending the festival. Artistic face painter Deborah Lane will bring an assistant to help with the crowds this year as this free activity is very much in demand. Other free activities include helium balloons, a balloon twisting artist, live music, a classic car display, kite competitions with generous cash prizes and a $100 lucky gate draw.
Plenty of delicious food is available on the day, including the barbeque manned by Rotary. Patrons are welcome to bring their own provisions if they prefer, there is plenty of room for a picnic rug. There will be lots of seating in the shade to get comfortable while enjoying live music from the Young Ones.
The day always brings an interesting array of home made kites, especially those created in the free school workshops run by kite guru Michael Richards. The Kite Festival Committee brings Mr Richards to schools in the region each year to foster skills and creativity in the art of kite making.
As always, a highlight of the day will be the kite competitions, free to enter and open to all skill levels. The festival runs from 11am to 5pm with entry being a gold coin donation.
