The fire started at about 12.48 am on Saturday, August 30, as a result of a bar heater being placed too close to a mattress in a front bedroom.
One of the occupants was alerted by popping sounds coming from the room and upon opening the door saw the mattress smouldering before catching alight.
A small baby was in the room at the time and an occupant grabbed the baby and alerted other occupants before leaving the house. The weatherboard house was destroyed.
A 52-year-old male occupant suffered burns to his arm and face along with smoke inhalation and was transported to Royal North Shore hospital for treatment.
No other persons were injured but were conveyed to Harden Hospital for assessment.
Slight damage was sustained to a neighbouring house but no serious damage caused.
