North Stradbroke Island is off the coast of Brisbane, about 20 km across Moreton Bay from Cleveland in Redland City.
Two trucks from the island were called to the scene at 12.30am on Saturday morning and took more than an hour to extinguish the blaze.
The Dunwich hairdresser's shop has been cordoned off while police investigate the fire which ripped through the building at 12.30am on Saturday.
Police have cordoned off the area, behind the butcher's shop, and a Queensland Fire and Emergency investigation unit was at the scene.
