THE Harden Hawks came close to defeating their arch rivals the Binalong Brahmans on Saturday when they lost 14/8 in a sometimes fiery match.

There were some big hits in the game that drew loud responses from both sets of supporters and much advice was offered from the sideline.
The Hawks scored first through Chris Beal and Abed Atallah converted to give the Hawks a 6/0 lead about 13 minutes into the game.
On the restart, Binalong knocked on and the Hawks went on the attack again.
Shortly after Binalong were ruled offside and Abed Attalah converted the penalty to give Harden a 8/0 lead.
Following this, Harden knocked on and a scrum was set. Binalong scored in the corner but missed the conversion and the Hawks held on to a 8/4 lead.
Binalong were next to score again when Harden failed to clean up a cross field kick and the Brahmans won the race to the ball. The game was locked at 8/8 at half time.
The Hawks fought strongly throughout the match and were determined to make amends for their loss to Binalong, 24/14, in their previous match of the season.
That struggle continued in the second half, however Binalong were next to score when they went over following a grubber kick. With the conversion, Binalong led 14/8.
A scuffle later broke out between the teams and a Binalong player was given 10 minutes in the sin bin with about 12 minutes to go.
Harden continued to press hard and got over the line with about four minutes to go, however the try was disallowed.
The Hawks have the bye this weekend.
