The council approved nose-in parking by a margin of five to two.
Councillors Matthew Stadtmiller and Tony Campbell voted against nose-in parking. Following the decision on nose-in parking, the Council also decided on alterations to Neill Street following a community consultation process on the streetscape.
With the decision on nose-in parking made, in the coming weeks Council staff will replace the white timber kerbs around the street trees with concrete kerbs. These kerbs will be lower than the current timber kerbs.
The disabled parking bay in front of Café Cos will be moved to the western shopfront side of IGA.
The Council will also now put in all the required disabled footpath ramps. The disabled park at IGA will double as shopping trolley access ramp.
The meeting confirmed the current size of the parking bays in the street to maximise the number of carparks.
Council staff will now hold talks with the retirement home as to how best enable the home's new bus to park in the street.
The meeting also decided to explore further options on how to improve pedestrian access between Neill Street and Whitton Street and also between Neill Street and the ARTC land behind IGA.
One of the aims of this move is to encourage shop owners and their employees to park off the main street.
