Perhaps not so wonderful for those in charge of the mowing but far better than dead, dry grass and cracks in the ground, which we were beginning to accept as nearly normal.
The wet conditions did affect the last game of the twilight bowls comp but the overall winner, Ethel Lee, was presented with her winnings while Philip Walsh was the runner up.
The weather bluffed many of the players during the Friday evening competition and the numbers were quite small. If it is to be successful next year new interested players or old interested players must participate in the competition.
The pennant bowlers were like the proverbial Cheshire cats on Sunday when they claimed the No. five pennant victory.
To win, they needed to defeat the Boorowa team 5/1. After a very close scoring game it was down to the final end when the local lads rolled down the winning bowl to win that important game by one shot and give them the needed score of 5/1.
They will now go to on to a zone play off but they do not yet know where that will be. All players enjoyed a barbecue after the game.

The final round of the chicken run was held on Sunday and the players were very impressed with the state of the course and those golfers who spent a lot of time mowing with the new equipment. It seems it worked very well.
The weather was kind to the players during the final round. The winner of the day’s event was Chris Glover, who seems to be very keen on the game these days.
Tommy Stadtmiller won the putts after a countback from Dave Bedford and he was amazed at his chip in for no putts on one hole. Christine Partridge put her drive on the 10th hole nearest the string and Ethel and Chris were nearest the pin on the 14th hole.
The overall points winner was John Lee with 25 points, Tony Barton won the men’s attendance trophy with 12 games while Chris P won the ladies with 10 games. Peter Curtis won the putting trophy. Clancy Grigg won a countback from Michael Paterson for the birdies award while Joe dyball was the only one to score an eagle.
During the comp 36 players competed with 139 individual starters.
Thanks again to Ethel who has organised this comp for many years, successfully bringing players to the club during the warmer months and helping to create and maintain interest in the game.
The official programme begins next weekend with a nine hole event for a club trophy at 2pm on Saturday. Norma and John Blair will donate trophies for a novelty bowls and golf game on Sunday with the golf starting at 1 pm and bowls round about 3 pm.
Players are welcome to play either golf or bowls or the more energetic ones can play both.
A quite lively number gathered on Sunday night for the meat raffles and the membership draw which jack potted again as Colleen Glover was not present.
The club is presently under new management with the new committee members being very active and with the new bar supervisor, Natalia Allen beginning her task at the weekend. Good wishes to them all for the coming year.

Last Sunday Peter and Helen Curtis finished up after a couple of years as president and secretary and general managers of the club event, with Helen holding the license for that time.
President, John Stadtmiller thanked them both and made a small presentation on behalf of the members. They certainly did a great job while they were in office. They made the most of their first free time to enjoy a weekend away.

At some stage, and no one seems to know when, the brass plate at the post office was removed - or should I say stolen - from the front of the building. I don’t think it would have been easy so kids can’t be blamed. It is amazing how something you see everyday is not appreciated until it is gone.
Until next time.
